A warm welcome to the Greek robotics team from Macquarie University
The Macquarie Greek Studies Foundation together with the Modern Greek Studies Program of Macquarie University, organised a warm and heartfelt welcome to the students of the Greek robotics team from the 3rd High School of Sparta, “NORTHSIDE”, which is representing Greece in the World Robotics Lego competition, taking place in Sydney, Australia at Macquarie University, from 30 June – 2 July.
On Tuesday, 27 June, the Foundation organised a dinner in honour of the students and their teachers at the Greek tavern Yia Mas. The Macquarie Greek Studies Foundation and the Greek Students Association of Macquarie, MUGA, presented the students from Greece, and the team’s two mentors and coaches, Mr Konstantinos Bobas, teacher at the High School of Sparta, and Mr Dimitrios Sagiannis, the Director of the Public Library of Sparta, with commemorative gifts.
On Thursday, 29 June, Dr Patricia Koromvokis gave the Greek team a guided tour of the library and the History Museum at Macquarie University. The students and their teachers also had the opportunity to see how the Greek lessons at the University are conducted, and also to meet with Greek students from the Greek Students Association at the University, known as MUGA. Dr Patricia Koromvokis stated that she was greatly moved to welcome the Greek robotics team from Sparta at Macquarie University, as she herself is also from Laconia.
Mr Konstantinos Bobas, teacher and team coach, stated: “We are deeply moved by the especially warm welcome given to us by the Macquarie Greek Studies Foundation. It has contributed most significantly to our immediate adjustment to this far away land, enabling us to represent our country to the best of our ability in the upcoming World Competition.”
Georgia Spyridakou (a student and member of the team) said: “We would also like, in turn, to thank you for the open arms we found at your university. Your support has given us the courage and determination to preserve this bond which has been created well into the future.”
Θερμό καλωσόρισμα από το Macquarie University στην ελληνική ομάδα ρομποτικής
Το Ίδρυμα Νεοελληνικών Σπουδών μαζί το Πρόγραμμα Νεοελληνικών Σπουδών του Πανεπιστημίου Macquarie οργάνωσαν θερμό καλωσόρισμα στα παιδιά της ομάδας ρομποτικής του 3ου Γενικού Λυκείου Σπάρτης “NORTHSIDE” που θα εκπροσωπήσουν τη Ελλάδα στον Παγκόσμιο διαγωνισμό Ρομποτικής Lego ο οποίος θα διεξαχθεί 30 Ιουνίου με 2 Ιουλίου στο Πανεπιστήμιο του Macquarie, στο Σίδνεϊ Αυστραλίας.
Την Τρίτη, 27 Ιουνίου το Ίδρυμα διοργάνωσε γεύμα προς τιμή των παιδιών και των εκπαιδευτών τους στην ελληνική ταβέρνα Yia Mas. Το Ίδρυμα και ο ελληνικός φοιτητικός σύλλογος MUGA έδωσε αναμνηστικά δώρα στους μαθητές και τους δύο μέντορες και προπονητές της ομάδας, τον καθηγητή του 3ου ΓΕΛ Σπάρτης, κ. Μπόμπα Κωνσταντίνο, και τον Διευθυντή της Δημόσιας Κεντρικής Βιβλιοθήκης Σπάρτης, κ. Σαγιάννη Δημήτριο.
Την Πέμπτη, 29 Ιουνίου, η Δρ. Πατρίσια Κορομβόκη, ξενάγησε την ελληνική ομάδα στη βιβλιοθήκη και στο Μουσείο Ιστορίας του Πανεπιστημίου Macquarie. Επίσης, οι μαθητές και οι καθηγητές είχαν την ευκαιρία να δουν πώς διεξάγονται τα μαθήματα ελληνικής γλώσσας στο Πανεπιστήμιο, καθώς και να γνωριστούν με Έλληνες μαθητές από τον ελληνικό φοιτητικό σύλλογο του Πανεπιστημίου, MUGA.
Ο καθηγητής και προπονητής της ομάδας, κ. Μπόμπας Κωνσταντίνος, δήλωσε: “Αισθανόμαστε βαθύτατα συγκινημένοι από την ιδιαίτερα θέρμη υποδοχή που μας επιφύλαξε το Ίδρυμα Νεοελληνικών Σπουδών. Έχει συμβάλλει τα μέγιστα στην άμεση προσαρμογή μας σε μια τόσο μακρινή χώρα, ώστε να εκπροσωπήσουμε επάξια τη χώρα μας στον επερχόμενο Παγκόσμιο Διαγωνισμό”.
Η μαθήτρια Γεωργία Σπυριδάκου (μέλος της ομαδας) δήλωσε: “Θα θέλαμε με τη σειρά μας να σας ευχαριστήσουμε για την ανοιχτή αγκαλιά που βρήκαμε στο πανεπιστήμιό σας. Η υποστήριξη σας μας δίνει το θάρρος να διατηρήσουμε αυτόν τον δεσμό που δημιουργήθηκε και στο μέλλον”.
